So, we’ve been pretty busy lately. I took a week and a half off and built a pergola and some raised garden beds in our backyard. The picture on the right is of the pergola in mid-construction (that’s me teetering on the step-ladder).
We wanted something that wasn’t too heavy and wouldn’t overwhelm the house and I think we achieved that. The hardest part was attaching it to the house. We originally were going to make it free standing (the actual definition of the “pergola” from what I hear) but the posts near the house fell right in front of our window. The only solution was to attach it directly to the house…which was a little daunting because I’ve never worked on vinyl siding before! But I managed to remove and reinstall the siding without damage and I think it looks pretty professional.
I’ll try to get some pics of the finished product up soon. We’ve added shade cloth, lights and misters which all add up to a very comfortable outdoor living space.
So, no camera yet. But I do have a new ride! I’ll have to borrow a camera to put a pic of it up.
It’s Friday so I’m going to be heading home soon (only a half-day of work on Fridays)…on my new bike.
I ride to work every day…about 13 miles round-trip. Since I’ve been riding the longer distance, my thighs have been growing in size — so much so that it’s bordering on a problem with my current wardrobe!
I guess that’s the price of sustainable transportation.
I’ve decided that cameras go with blogging like Fred goes with Ginger. You just can’t blog without having photos to go with it. Unfortunately, I have a camera sporadically…something I’m hoping to correct soon.
Anyway, just wanted to check in and say that.
Later.
I thought this was kinda cool:
(CNN) — When Jon Bohmer sat down with his two little girls for a simple project they could work on together, he didn’t realize they’d hit upon a solution to one of the world’s biggest problems for just $5: A solar-powered oven.

Ecto is a pretty cool tool for blogging. One of the features is that it allows me to define custom fields compatible with Wordpress. This is essential for this theme since it uses a custom field for the image scroller on the main page.

Hello and welcome to my new blog. This will probably be the latest in a long list of neglected blogs, but I’ve got to try, don’t I?

It will probably take me a bit to get this one up to speed, but will try to get there relatively quickly. Do you like my theme?
Post again soon…I hope…
