Sustainable farming or “How to be REALLY POOR with a Good Conscience!”

Alright, obviously this is the first time I have EVER blogged.  It will become apparent as I try to maneuver thru all of the editing tools and such.  Here we gooo!

5 years of farming the land and woooo did that cost us a LOT!  This is my personal account of trying to live as close to self sufficiently as I personally could, these past 5 years and now into the future.

9.5 acres - what now???  We moved in to our DREAM FARM (ok. stop right there!  First of all, there is a clarification to be made.  This was  MY dream farm, NOT my spouses.  But, hey, he did sign on for “for better or worse…” and let me tell you, it did get a LOT worse.

…..I had a dream…..  I wanted to have a Lavender Farm.  Now doesn’t that sound tranquil and lovely.  Acres and Acres of lavender gently flowing in the breeze.  Like in all the pictures of Provence.  So I bought books and more books.   I had soil samples analyzed.  I really did my research.   And THEN I even arranged for and dragged my husband (co-farmer, right??) up to a profitable lavender farm, and /we had a days worth of training.  All prepared.  Ready for anything.  I order my initial plantings.  Approx 300 teeny tiny lavender “plugs”.  Apparently this is were all the great growers begin.  My fields all freshly mowed and ready to nurture these ity bity green spikes into great mounds of lavender.  Hours and hours and hours of hand watering (couldn’t figure out our irrigation system that came with the property to adequately water these tiny sprouts) later.  They began to grow!  ok. enough for today.  remember, I still live on the farm and there are chores to do.  Happy Day to all!
